I had read the original Shannara series many moons ago. Then along came the Word and the Void trilogy, a totally different feel and world. Then Terry brilliantly created this series, the Genesis of Shannara as a bridge between the two.
Armageddon's Children and the Elves of Cintra built the history of Shannara from its earliest origins. The final book of the trilogy, The Gypsy Morph was just released this year. Settling into my favorite chair and reading this book swept me away in the glory of Brooks writing. A saga of strength, imagination, having faith in oneself and ones abilities, persistence, cherishing the unique in humanity and all of creation with some great action and blowin s*#t up. Ah....perfection.
I always like to start from the beginning of great authors works. So if you haven't read Brooks before, why not start with his breakout New York Times bestseller The Sword of Shannara, join the adventure of brilliant fantasy. Once you get addicted too here's the rest of the glory:
SHANNARA
First King of Shannara
The Sword of Shannara
The Elfstones of Shannara
The Wishsong of Shannara
THE HERITAGE OF SHANNARA
The Scions of Shannara
The Druid of Shannara
The Elf Queen of Shannara
The Talismans of Shannara
THE VOYAGE OF THE JERLE SHANNARA
Ilse Witch
Antrax
Morgawr
HIGH DRUID OF SHANNARA
Jarka Ruus
Tanequil
Straken
The World of Shannara
THE WORD AND THE VOID
Running with the Demon
A Knight of the Word
Angel Fire East
Sometimes the Magic Works: Lessons from a Writing Life
And if that wasn't enough, there's also the Magic Kingdom of Landover series, which will expect an addition in 2009.
Happy Reading!
